We are about halfway through 2023. Here are some updates regarding happenings with Fort Condominium Association so far this year:
1. The Board of Directors is working with Vial Fotheringham LLP, also known as VF Law, to restate Fort Condominium Association’s Declaration of Covenants and Bylaws. The lawyer we are working with delivered the first draft of these documents to the Board on June 26. The Board is currently reviewing those draft documents.
2. The parking lot, which was paved in 2021, was seal coated by Black is Beautiful Asphalt Paving of Lamar on June 14, 2023. Seal coating will help to protect the asphalt from hardening and crumbling.
3. The cottonwood trees along the river were trimmed by K2 Tree Services in early May 2023. That project included cutting down one tree next to the parking lot, which was deemed as a risk to the building and to parked automobiles. The Board is currently seeking professional opinions and estimates regarding another tree along the river, which appears cracked and ready to fall. If this tree is deemed as a risk, it will also be cut down.
4. The Town of La Veta has proposed a new short-term rental ordinance that could restrict short term rentals throughout the town of La Veta including banning short-term rentals at Fort Condominiums. Our Board President, Kevin Davis, is attending all town meetings regarding this ordinance and keeping Fort Condominium owners informed via email.
5. All Fort Condominium Owners are invited to attend all Association Board meetings, which are held via Zoom on the first Thursday of each month at 6pm MT. Invitations are sent to owners via email. Owners are permitted limited opportunity to comment at Board meetings.
